We Need Your Help

Welcome to Mount Union Cemetery! The grounds of this beautiful, peaceful cemetery are maintained by fewer than five regular volunteers; most are retirement age and WE NEED YOUR HELP! Volunteer days are generally every second Saturday, April through October, 9:00 am to noon. This year’s volunteer days are May 10, June 14, July 19, August 9, September 13, and October 11.
On May 24th, we’ll meet at 9:00 am to put out American flags at the grave sites of our veterans. The American Legion Post 11 in Corvallis has donated 100 new flags.
- NO RIGID time commitments
- Pre/post special event work, or
- More often, or
- As your schedule allows. ANY & ALL help is appreciated!
- ALL ages & physical abilities welcome!
- If you can push a lawn mower or use a weed whacker, you are needed!
- But we also need volunteers for “light duty tasks” too, like:
- Installing and/or removing flags after Memorial Day
- *Sitting on the Board of Directors
- Photographing headstones for the findagrave.com website
- Applying for grants or soliciting for donated supplies/services
- Light weeding
- Sending thank you letters for tax deductible donation receipts
- Spraying headstones to remove algae and moss
- Picking up dried flowers
- Post-wind event pickup or Autumn leaf blowing
- Anyone can volunteer!
- You don’t have to own a cemetery space, or have a loved one buried here to volunteer.
- If you enjoy this beautiful place just to walk your dog, simply live in the neighborhood, come here for quiet time, appreciate its historical significance, or to visit a loved one’s grave, please give of your time!

- Invite your group to volunteer. We are a 501c13 and will gladly document required volunteer hours for your Scout, 4-H, high school senior, sorority/fraternity, religious or other group.

- Be trained to use our lawn care equipment, or bring your own.
- Give, and receive much!
- Volunteering at Mount Union Cemetery is a wonderful way to honor those we love, show respect to the history of this place, “pay-it-forward,” get some exercise, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and meet new friends.
Just can’t volunteer? Please consider making a tax-deductible donation. Those funds help us to hire professionals when needed (for example, to gravel the roads), buy equipment or supplies, or hire lawn care help when illness hits our small group of regular caretakers. (Hired lawn care is a particularly expensive alternative that is avoided whenever possible.)
The cemetery has always been maintained by volunteers and in the not-too-distant past, this peaceful place was covered in blackberry bushes so thick one could not find the roads. Historical grave markers of Oregon pioneers crumbled due to lack of care, and funeral homes struggled to dig graves for grieving families. Your assistance can ensure that never happens again!
